In 1969 Honda launched the first CB model  - the CB750 - which combined outstanding performance, reliability and engineering sophistication. In 1979 Honda increased the performance of the CB750 model most significantly for the CB750F Super Sport model. By 1981 the CB900F model was introduced with the 902cc 16 valve engine with larger valves and carburetors. In 1983 Honda introduced their 1062cc engine powered CB1100F. The Hurricane - CBR1000 - came out in 1987 with a quieter engine, more consistent power output and reduced emissions. The CB750 Nighthawk, with an air cooled 750 four cylinder and engine displacement of 747cc with four valves per cylinder and double overhead cam shafts became one of the most popular CB models.

In 1992 the Honda CB model CBR900RR was produced with 893cc displacement and an inline 4 engine (by 1996 the engine displacement had grown to 919cc). Honda's CBR929RR motorcycle powered by a 929cc fuel injected engine was introduced in 2000. In 2002 the best selling CBR954RR is redesigned with new style, a lighter weight and more power from the 954cc inline engine. In 2007 the Honda CB1000R was unveiled powered by the 998cc four cylinder engine with sixteen valves and a 6 speed gear box reaching 140mph top speeds.
